Director's Departure

After four long and difficult months, I am sad to report that Gallery Imperato has yet to find a new home. With the indefinite state of the current situation, I've finally decided to make a move of my own. I am incredibly proud of what was accomplished in the last three years and am confident that the platform created at Gallery Imperato greatly contributed to the arts in Baltimore. We had some awesome shows, loyal patrons and extremely talented artists pass through. I will sorely miss seeing the same familiar faces every seventh Friday. Thanks to you, I had the pleasure of sharing amazing work with the public and got to surround myself with artwork that excited me. Now I begin a new venture where I will continue to do just that.

I am pleased to announce the emergence of Divergence Fine Art, a unique business venture that connects clients with artists, artists with galleries, and galleries with clients. My mission is to assist, guide, inform, educate, excite and inspire. I will continue to exhibit exceptional artwork every chance I get by curating the occasional show and working closely with local artists, galleries, and non-profit organizations. Be sure to keep an eye out for Divergence Fine Art showing at a venue near you.

Until Then,

Cherí Landry

Creative Alliance's annual gala bash is one of the great parties of the year! Whether you like the Baz Luhrmann version with Nicole Kidman, or the 1952 Huston classic, be inspired by gaudy visions of left bank Paris circa 1880-where sailors and scions slummed it with artists, intellectuals and scantily clad dancing girls. Snow Delays & Massive Jellies

First the holidays, now the snow storms. Its one delay after the other. Securing a new location is taking much longer than planned. Hopefully we can get back on the road again soon!

In the meantime, we are preparing to exhibit at AAF NY again. Last year was a success so we are hoping for similar, if not better, results. This year Gallery Imperato has the honor of displaying a large installation in the fair lobby area! We will be featuring multiple Jellyfish sculptures by Gwyneth Scally and a brand new video by Laura McClanahan, featuring footage from the National Aquarium's "Jellies" exhibit.

The Hunting Art Prize

Congratulations to Gallery Imperato artist Shannon Cannings, now a 2010 Hunting Art Prize finalist. The winner will be awarded $50,000. That could buy a lot of toy guns and painting supplies! Good luck Shannon:)

Shannon Cannings, Orange Flash, 2009, oil on panel, 12" x 24"

The Hunting Art Prize is among the largest annual art awards in the country, and is the largest in North America for painting and drawing. The recipient will be announced at a May 1 gala at the Friedkin Corporate Campus, Gulf States Toyota, 1375 Enclave Parkway in Houston. Hunting moved the prize to Houston in 2006 after a quarter century in the United Kingdom, where it emerged as one of Great Britain’s top art awards. It is open to any Texas-based artist who is 18 years or older.

Welcome Hong Zhang

We are thrilled to welcome Chinese artist Hong Zhang and her Hairy Objects Drawings to Gallery Imperato. The idea for this series is about humor, beauty and repulsion. Zhang combines hair and everyday objects to evoke different feelings and emotions through a surrealistic approach.
